Today I would like to share with you a free plastic canvas pattern to make doll clothes hangers for all your 18 inch doll clothing. These are quick and easy to make.

There is a great video on YouTube showing how to make doll clothes hangers from heavy wire.  I tried it but the wire was difficult to twist and I didn’t like that the end of the wire had the potential to snag clothes no matter how tightly I got it twisted.  So I decided to use a different material.

I have seen Barbie doll hangers in the past made from plastic canvas.  So I thought why not make one that is a little bit bigger to use in the doll clothes armoire my husband made for me.

One thickness of plastic canvas isn’t quite sturdy enough to handle some of the heavier AG doll clothes.  However, by using 3 thicknesses, you can make a sturdy hanger.

  • 7 count plastic canvas in the color of your choice (scraps are good for this project since you don’t need very much)
  • dry erase marker
  • worsted weight yarn
  • yarn needle
  • scissors

Having trouble finding plastic canvas in local stores? I can hardly ever find plastic canvas in my local craft stores anymore. So I buy my plastic canvas in bulk on Amazon.

Cut 3 hanger pieces from plastic canvas, following the pattern.  You can click here for a larger pattern image.

Use a dry erase marker to draw the pattern on the canvas to make it easier to cut.  (You can wipe it off of the canvas easily after you are done cutting.)

Place the 3 pieces together and overcast the edges with yarn all the way around the hanger.

That’s all there is to it.  You can make as many as you like so you will never run out of doll clothes hangers again.

If you don’t want to make doll clothes hangers, Amazon has some for reasonable prices.  I especially like the wood ones.

I love this idea. I have made pipe cleaner hangers using 3 pipecleaners and crochet over the edges. I have cut a child hanger and melted the cut end with a candle to smooth edges. The oart you cut off can be cut to make two more hangers. The hook part can be glued to a tongue depresser and covered with fleese and a pretty bow. I posted them on yahoo. American girl blog. I’ll definitely try this one too.

I’m making these for my puppy clothes. She is x=small and they work perfectly. She too has an armoire.

I made allot of things from plastic canvas a few years ago but now am into sewing clothes for AG dolls so hangers would come in handy. Am 63 but I don’t think we ever get to old to love dolls they always love us back no matter what.

Thanks for the pattern for these hangers. I have great-grands that are so into AG dolls and we just made a closet from a box but needed hangers. And I do a lot of plastic canvas so easy for me.
